In NE Florida, where N. polygonatus appears to find its northern distributional terminus, its breeding season has been observed to be seasonally different from that of the syntopic N. vibex.
Species so closely related might be expected to hybridize, but behavioral barriers such as the dysynchrony above may be powerful isolating forces between divergent taxa.
