Odostomia laevigata (d'Orbigny, 1841), Ovoid Odostome

10/27/15  Susan Hewitt asked:

You say you have documented this species from all around Florida's coastline. Can I ask: have you found it or documented it anywhere near Sanibel?

Marlo:

In my personal collection: Marco Island area, Tampa Bay and Tarpon Springs.

It is also listed in the following checklist:

Kice Island

However, it is not reported in the Bailey-Matthews data base.

Southwest Florida Shells with Emphasis on Sanibel & Captiva

Susan:

The reason I ask is because I have a strong suspicion that this juvenile shell, found on Sanibel near Blind Pass, is probably this species:

If the species occurs on Kice Island, I reckon it probably also occurs on Sanibel.
