Marginella hartleyanum (Schwengel, 1941) was accepted as a valid species for many years but in 1998 was reclassified as Prunum virginianum hartleyanum (Schwengel, 1941).  In 2009  Prunum virginianum         (Conrad, 1868) was determined to have been extinct and Prunum hartleyanum regained species status.
